Misungui: Shibari from/with a Stool

For over 10 years I have been regularly tying up people of varied builds and physical conditions, which has led me to develop techniques to adapt the classic forms of shibari to all bodies and abilities.

As shibari is my job, I seek to improve my working conditions and preserve my own body. Indeed, I am a relatively small person, let’s say with limited muscular strength and my models are most of the time much taller and heavier than me.

For all these reasons, the stool has appeared as a rather extraordinary tool since it allows me to solve many problems encountered by my models and myself. And then, beyond the ergonomic aspect of this technique, I would like to suggest the field of playful possibilities that this approach also opens up.

What to expect from this workshop:

Firstly, we will explore the advantages of tying on a stool/chair for both models and riggers, especially when the models are not flexible, taller/heavier than their riggers and when the riggers are not so strong or want to preserve their knees and back. We will discover the playfulness of tying on furniture, and creative possibilities for floorwork.

Secondly, we will focus on the practical advantages of the stool by experimenting with two shibari sequences:

  • Kata Ashi since it is a great classic of shibari, often presented as an essential sequence, even though it is very difficult to sustain for most models. I will therefore show you that by starting from a stool, this sequence becomes much more accessible and fun, both for models and riggers.
  • The Crab Tie which is typically the type of suspension requiring the rigger to lift the entire weight of the model from the ground, which can be very difficult or even impossible depending on the body size of each person. I will therefore show you the benefit of starting a shibari from a stool in terms of saving force and safety for both riggers and models.

Model

JB, became addicted to rope when he first encountered Misungui and is passionate about sharing, experimenting, and performing with her for all to witness. Once self-conscious about his body, he has found confidence through photography and live performances. As a former control freak with anxieties surrounding loss of mobility, independence or free will, he embraces consensual restraint as a cathartic release. With a background in sports and combat, he enjoys the physical sensations of stretching and impact, while his kinky mind is thrilled by the erotic sides of the rope world.
