Skill progression: Partial suspension

TODO: Insert picture of partial suspension

In this workshop we will explore partial suspension. Partial suspension is the ideal gateway into more advanced shibari practice, allowing you to build the skills for full suspension, while being no less challenging or flashy. It can be anything, allowing you to turn the floor from a comfortable, supportive surface into your model’s worst enemy. We will focus first on the technical aspects of incorporating uplines into your tying sessions and how this expands your possibilities for play. This workshop is also an ideal way to build the skills needed for the more advanced workshops hosted by Querverbindungen.

While the workshop will be fairly technical, we want to emphasize and encourage play, and have chosen shapes that facilitate this. You will learn basic upline management, as well as suspendable harnesses for both the upper and lower body. We will then use these as building blocks for creating shapes that range from comfortable to challenging.

Throughout the workshop, you will learn about the safety aspects and risks that are inherent to partial suspension, allowing you to make informed decisions about the risks you are taking and to build your own risk profile as a rigger or model.

The workshop can be taught in English or German, depending on the attendee’s wishes.

hyperstitious

hyperstitious (they/he) fell in love with shibari after discovering the work of photographer Nobuyoshi Araki. Since then, their love for rope has only deepened and they have been tying as much as life allows them to. They enjoy immersing themselves in all kinds of styles and learning from a multitude of workshops by internationally renowned riggers.

mncat

mncat (they/she/all) is a rope switch who likes exploring love, surrender, and suffering through shibari. Apart from a few self-tying experiments in their teenage years, their shibari journey began after discovering Nobuyoshi Araki’s work while idly flicking through photo books in an art store. Their primary source of inspiration are their tying partners, who have greatly influenced their style of rope. Besides that, they have been actively participating in diverse workshops in Vienna and Europe. They are passionate about teaching and are currently a teacher for rope rebels.
